Plywood or MDF sheet (1/2” thick)
1”x3”x8”
2” Foam padding (local craft store)
High-quality bouclé fabric (local craft store)

Step 1: Designing the Scalloped Shape
Start by designing the scalloped shape on the plywood/MDF sheet. We drew our template out on a piece of cardboard to make sure our scallops would be identical. Use a pencil or marker to sketch the curves and create a symmetrical pattern. Starting in the center of the board will also help to ensure symmetry of the pattern. We chose to have 5 curves along the top, but that is personal preference. Once you are satisfied with the design, use a jigsaw to cut out the shape.
Step 2: Preparing the Plywood/MDF
Sand the edges of the plywood to create a smooth finish. This step is crucial, as it will affect the overall look and feel of the headboard. Wipe away any dust using a clean cloth. We also pre-dilled the holes in the headboard for the support posts that will be
used to secure the headboard to the bedframe. We used a 1”x3” and used the previous headboard as a stencil for drilling the holes.
Step 3: Adding Foam Padding
Measure and cut the foam padding to match the shape of the plywood. Some may prefer to apply a layer of heavy-duty adhesive to the plywood and carefully attach the foam padding. We chose not to do this step. Ensure that the padding is evenly distributed and secure.
Step 4: Wrapping in Bouclé Fabric
Select a high-quality bouclé fabric that complements your bedroom's color scheme. Lay the fabric flat on a clean surface, next lay the felt (this is crucial to ensure that seamless and smooth look), and place the padded plywood/MDF on top, ensuring that there is enough fabric on each side to wrap around the edges. Using a staple gun, secure the fabric to the plywood, starting from the sides and working your way around. Be sure to pull the fabric taut for a smooth and professional finish.
Step 5: Creating Scalloped Detail
To enhance the scalloped design, cut excess fabric between the curves, leaving enough to wrap around the edges. Fold the excess fabric over the edges and staple it securely to create a clean and polished look.
Step 6: Mounting the Headboard
Once you are satisfied with the fabric placement and secure attachment, it's time to mount the headboard to the bed frame or directly to the wall, depending on your preference. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific bed frame or use appropriate hardware for wall mounting.
